These sustitutions are all taken from Ani Phyo's (http://www.rawinuk.com/showthread.php?t=66) book (so unfortunately in cups) for those times when you're in the middle of a recipe and something has run out and you didn't realise ;)
1/4 cup agave for 1/4 cup dates
1/4 cup maple syrup for 1/4 cup dates
1/4 cup honey for 1/4 cup dates
1tbs of vanilla extract for 1 vanilla bean
1tbs Nama Shoyu for 1/2tbs Bragg Liquid Aminos (http://www.veganstore.co.uk/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=1&Product_Code=575)
*Ani says you can use cacao nibs, whole beans or powder interchangeably. Substitute caffeine-free carob powder for cocoa one for one and vice versa.
