after being on the wrong end of a rather persistant parasitic infestation known as Giardia I thought I should pay rather more attention to the cleanliness of my raw foods.
I heard that hydrogen peroxide and cider vinegar are good for cleaning your fruits, veggies, knives and worktops, but how do i use it safely??
also how can we be sure to safely eat clean raw foods when we are 'out and about' ?
Hi Sharon, it's a really good point and I'm not surprised you are dubious about what is romping about on our foods these days!
There's a little thread here (http://www.rawinuk.com/showthread.php?t=462) with some washes that might help you out.
Regarding the travelling about, I guess you could always carry a small bottle of one of the washes to use to rinse the produce? Or I'm wondering if perhaps carrying some coconut oil might help with it's antibacterial properties, kinda wipe on wipe off perhaps :confused2:

sounds good thanks Jax, and i will go look at the link you gave too ;)
Hi
Not long joined this site but I know a bit about peroxide. it does kill most bacteria on foods but it must be a very weak version of it other wise it will just eat away at the produce eventually. Hydrogen peroxide needs to be at 3% or even less long as it gently 'bubbles'.
The cider vinegar is very good at kiling parasites immediatley on most produce.
I would like to find out has anyone else used the Veggie Wash for the non organic produce? I just started using it on Cherries and the colour of the water afterwards was DIGUSTING!! really makes you think about the pesticide **** that is out there hidden on foods.
