Featured in Healthy issue 78, supposedly good for rashes, itching, sore spots and flakiness;
25g dried calendula flowers
150ml sunflower oil
25g beeswax, grated
Place the flowers in the bottom of a glass jar and pour on the sunflower oil, leave to steep. Shake daily for 3 wks. Strain through fine cloth into a bowl, squeezing and pressing the flowers to get the last drops. Place a heat proof measuring jug on a saucepan with about 10cm water in, over a medium heat. Add the oil then the grated beeswax and stir until melted. Pour into wide-mouthed jars and allow to cool and solidify.
To test consistency, drop a small amount on a saucer and put in freezer for 1 min. For a harder salve add a little beeswax, for softer add a little oil. Store away from heat and light.
