I've never been one to 'work out' or go 'jogging'.

Hubby and I enjoy going out for lovely long walks together, keeping up a reasonable pace and we get to spend that quality time together whilst exercising.

Hubby is a builder by trade and as his business partner I enjoy going out to work with him and getting physical with the wheel barrow and heavy lifting with him, its fun.

one thing I have noticed is that before i went raw/alkaline when we had work that involved the really heavy stuff it would take most of the week for my aching muscles to recover.

Now I'm mostly raw and in particular pH neutral (which i believe is very significant btw ;) ) .
This last 2 weeks we have spent cutting down and shredding some very large conifers, followed by lots of digging (hubby) and barrowing (me), which was followed by more shovelling and barrowing (both of us).

i noticed that my muscles only had moderate ache which disappeared by the next day. nothing like the shredded-muscles-hanging-off kind of feeling like I had last year for 3 weeks when we dug out and barrowed a whole stone wall into a skip.

Also i have noticed i have much more muscle definition than my previous efforts.

And most of all I FEEL SOOO GOOD!!! right through!

Raw is definitely good for the body and speeds up recovery time, but i do believe that bringing my pH levels up from 5.0 to 7.0 has been a major contributor in the healing process.

Hm thinking about it in very rudimentary crude terms, as the muscles work they produce the by product lactic acid which is the pain you feel when you can't physically go on, therefore I'm wondering if lowering the pH level of the body affects that and therefore allows you to train/work for longer?? Could give the same affect that is meant to happen with the creatine supplements. Hm don't think I have time to research that just yet though http://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon11.gif

Brendan Brazier has written more about it in his book 'the thrive diet'.

He writes about how he researched the effects of different foods on his tri-athlete training, what you are saying would appear to match his research about the lactic acid, if our bodies are more alkaline then the healing response is much quicker. He claims he was able to train more often because of this, putting him into the top of his field.

I was interested to observe those results in myself without realising it.

Ah thanks for that insight Sharon..................lol always good to know that I'm not talking complete and utter twaddle ;) I'm thinking I might have to read his book now, but also thinking that could be dangerous for me for when I eventually get back to work!! As a sports lecturer we have a syllabus to loosely stick to, but now with all this new raw food/vegan nutrition I've been amassing since being off work....................am wondering how this will go down at work in amongst the most hardened mainstream SAD/SUKD students and fellow lecturers!!! http://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon11.gif

I'm torn because I want the new generations to learn better nutrition but at the same time have to toe the line in mainstream teaching so as to speak!! Big dilemma http://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Lead quietly by example, people really notice how well I look, and my own family are stunned at how I can work physically.
I have really good stamina which I do put down to the diet and my quick recovery.

LOL true..........although before I got signed off and wasn't as raw as I am now, they already thought I ate 'weird' food, which was generally Karen's chocolate and raw cakes, salads with some sprouts on them and cooked falafals!! My colleagues always want to try a bit then start pulling bizarre contorted faces when they do!! :4628: :noidea: :620:

Haha I can totally relate to that Jax. My family all do that each time i sit down to eat my weird and bizarre combinations !!!

LOL I'm really lucky that my family are actually interested in what I'm eating/ommitting next and why, and some follow it a bit too without me having to bang on about it :rockon::rockon: What annoys me about work is that we are 'meant to be' at the forefront of new research and ideas, not stuck in a rut churning the same old carp out, hey ho..................guess I'll just have to apply to write the new syllabus in 4 years time ha ha http://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
