i love my excaliber dehydrator.
i love creating funky new recipes for crackers.
i love eating them.
but i get the most awful bloating and toxic gas when i eat them.
HELP! :pirate:
Is it down to food combining, like what you're eating with them??

I found I bloated with dehydrated foods, especially crackers. I think as well as food combining issues like flax & say sprouted chick pea hummous!! great combo for gas!!
Crackers are sucking moisture to rehydrate in your body this process is slow and slows the digestion process, if you eat fruit after this then the body tries to process the fruit faster and the system backs up, resulting in carbonic gas build up, gas! as the fruit will ferment, fruit is everything from tomatoes & cucumber maybe in the salad with the crackers? right through to the obvious avocado or pineapple!
Fruit should always be eaten on it's own and first, the traditional method of meal then pudding is all wrong for the digestive tract to cope with.
Eating fruit especially melon alone is best, wait 30 mins to an hour before consuming anything even water, try to eat crackers alone or with simple veg based spreads with say something like miso, or spices and add water to the pate to get smooth consistancy try not to add tomatoes or bell peppers, I know they are nice but if you don't want gas then don't do it!
I made crackers only every other month or so, I prefer to make Onion bread as this lends it's self to being eaten easier, as it's ratio of flax seeds to onion is actually quite small.
Onion bread
3 onions largeish
1 cup ground sunflower seeds
1 cup ground flax seeds
1/2 cup olive oil
1/2 cup nama shoyu
slice onions finely, hand mix into the other ingredients
form onto teflex sheets thinly covering about 3 sheets
dehydrate at 105 for 48 hours turning after 36
Or try just dehydrating things like Kale with salt or spices & a little oil
for crunchy krisps
xx
keep eating raw & things all fall into place xx
Did you like marmite before raw? You may like this recipe to top a cracker. It's from 'Evie's Kitchen' by Shazzie.
50g cashew nuts soaked for at least 20 minutes, soak water discarded, blended with 40g melted coconut butter; 15g dark miso and juice of 1 lemon. It's got a really good spreadable texture and keeps well in the fridge.
I only ever eat crackers as a snack and apart from other foods such as fruit and veg. Seems to make instinctive sense and it means I relish the 'treat' type nature of a crunchy snack. Nut butter is my topping of choice with some sprinkled nori flakes.
Hope that gives you some more ideas..it's all fun experimenting with limitless possibilites.

re: food combining.
i eat them on their own, or topped with hummous usually, i cant say ive been experimenting a lot with spreads for the crackers really. hmmm perhaps a banana may sneak in after eating crackers? you could have a point...
i love that 'marmite' recipe...i'm gonna make a fridge full of that i can tell.... THANKS!
and i havent tried those onion crackers yet, i figured that whatever it is dried i would have issues with the bloating and discomfort that arrives with it.
