Yes they are lovely, depends on where you get them from as to cost usually around £2.50 each,
Try www.orkos.com (http://www.orkos.com) they are a spanish importer of tropical foods xx
we are lucky the international food shop portswood high street often stocks them when in season x

Tesco have them in the summer. Also ethnic markets.

Yes, they're lovely for the water, but in the UK the amount of flesh inside them is very variable. You could pay £2 and find a thick layer, or...virtually nothing. And it takes a lot of work getting into them!

After years of experimenting with them in the UK (and experiencing the contrast in Thailand, where they're all over the ground FOC, as they grow wild, and thick with 'jelly') for me they're not really a goer in the UK - at least not for raw food recipes.

But, at vegan fayres, if someone else slices the top off, and gives me a straw and a spoon...I'm in there!

so far ive only managed to find the dried up versions in the supermarkets.

i too tried fresh green coconut in thailand, it was awesome, so were the tree ripened bananas and mangos and fresh peanuts....yes FRESH peanuts...ive never found them again either....

hubby and i dont do well in the heat so i shouldnt think i will be heading out to thailand again.

its the coconut flesh im looking for as well as the water.

ive actually found myself craving coconut a lot recently.

can you make coconut milk from the dried stuff??

Yes, just blend up the flesh with the coconut water (and maybe a bit of extra water) and strain through a nut milk bag.

Sharon, you might be interested to know that Tesco raw in-shell peanuts (as opposed to their roasted in-shell peanuts) sprout beautifully! So, although not as fresh as those in Thailand, they are at least raw.

I should say that I only sprouted them to check their rawness.

They didn't taste good sprouted!

(Hmm...hope I'm not too late with that...)

sprouting them means you could grow your own fresh home grown peanuts then? you couldnt get much fresher than that lol

I don't think we could grow them here. As I understand it, they come out of the ground, and the ground here would be too cold over the winter.

Unfortunately.

No, you're not. I haven't eaten peanuts for years and forgot to buy them. Have you ever grown them into greens after sprouting on? I am always looking for more micro greens!
