We for many years like most have been drinking water filtered by one method or another,
Our families dream has been to dig a well or bore hole and drink water filtered by the heavy clay that our house is built on.
Well as you can appreciate wells and holes cost money, so we have bought a rain (the brochure details says any river, stream, well, rain, tanked & tap) water filter.
It's a GS2 gravity water filter
from www.green-shopping.co.uk (http://www.green-shopping.co.uk)
it holds 9 litres and takes around 10 hours to filter a tank, once you have flushed the filters through it only needs topping up. So the 10 hours is not a problem.
If you have the space imagine taking it on holiday? suddenly fresh spring water or locally sourced river water, no more bottled water?
It costs £98.50 and filters which need to be bought in pairs cost £25 each and depending on usage every 6 - 12 months (filters do 4000ltr) so our family of 3 would be looking at 12 months a much larger family 6 months.
Flouride-you can buy additional Flouride filters as the unit can take 4 different filters the filters that come with it are Sugarlite, ceramic filters.
They filter-bacteria, parasites, heavy metals, chemicals, organic and other matter.
For us this has been a money saving purchase as our existing filter system costs £70 a filter every 6 months!

Today we have received our gravity water filter & will be filtering rain water to drink just as soon as it rains!!!

Water is magic.. it is the only substance on Earth that exists naturally in its 3 different states solid, liquid & gas.

Water holds memory.. as the ice caps are melting just think of the ancient knowledge is now being released into our realities!

Here is a couple of really interesting films about our precious water...

I've only tasted water from the rain filter once, and I have to say I was amazed at the taste of the 'clarity' of it, some may say that you can't taste clarity and I would've have totally agreed before, but that's honestly what it felt like!

i also am debating whether to save for the rain water filter. I agree Jax that the water had an extremely clear and refreshing quality... and for me, if you could taste 'humility,' this would be it. It was so gentle and sweet...like a rain shower on a summer's day.

I have heard about the internet site where you can give others info about springs you know that are useable. I would love to find a source of free water, even though we have an under-counter filter system, slightly better than a filter jug. I would love to drink water with some life in it! When hiking in the Austrian mountains as a teenager our family would drink from mountain streams all day long (we also cooled our milka chocolate in it!) and it was glorious...my Dad used to say, 'this water is properly wet!" I crave that Austrian snowmelt stream...

Just adding a link to Sigg bottles and an alternative (http://www.onyabags.co.uk/shop.php?crn=215), for carrying water instead of using plastic bottles.

Also of course, glass bottle are really useful for this purpose, except if you are a small child or accident prone like me! http://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

And also a possibility of a cheaper interim filter for some from Charcoal People (http://www.onyabags.co.uk/shop.php?crn=229), I've never seen this before so I have no idea of it's ability to filter impurities etc, so if anybody has used it, please do let us know.
