12pm til 3pm
Raw Food Pot Luck
21 Greenways
Stoneham
Southampton
SO16 2NY
All Welcome, please RSVP to me Karen at
kcreations@live.co.uk
This event has been a long time coming....
If the weather is nice we have a large outdoor space that is suitable for children, with ride on toys for younger ones, trampoline, & seating. garden is fenced. if the weather is not nice then please just expect to squash in in doors!!
Bring a dish that is totally RAW, please label any allergy info...stating nuts etc and who made it,
This is so anyone there can ask you about it.
Please aim for closer to 12pm. This gives everyone the opportunity to see the food and (as some people might only be bringing a tiny amount) this gives all the same opportunity to taste tiny dishes.
The rest of the time is a social gather to talk getting like minded raw foodists together.
Any Dish is fine, from a Juice to a cake and all things inbetween xx
If you just wish to learn about raw food and have not yet worked out what to eat, I will make a few extra dishes and will put out contributions tin for anyone not bringing food (or you can wash up)
please bring your own plate & cultery, you are welcome to wash up.
(capped numbers apply, if we reach capacity we will notify by e mail those we can't fit in)
We hope to have a monthly (fortnightly??) pot luck from now on.

Thank you to all who came today, I think the count was 27
The weather was perfect and the food amazing.
The variety was beautiful and bountiful.
Some visitors were here to "see" what raw food is like, and they went away not only impressed but keep to try more for them selves.
Thank you, I can't say it enough!
I am grateful that our home is welcoming for all who wish to discover raw food.
I can't wait for next time,
my only complaint about the day is that we couldn't do this every day xxx

I'm coming but I haven't got much in the garden because I've only just started this gardening lark!! http://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon11.gif :confused2:
Oh my word!!! I have to say I was blown away by the quality of foods on offer today at the pot luck, well done to all who contributed it was amazing :peace:
I've added some pics, and although I do have a sweet tooth that isn't the reason I've only got pics of desserts, it's because I was so busy chatting I didn't get round to taking pics until near the end of the lunch time rush. Suffice to say the savoury spread was massive and tasted fantasic, I think my fave was Marie's succulent french beans, tomatoes with basil and chilli, with a lovely dressing. Somebody had also made a salad of leaves and flowers which was yummy.
We also drank Karen's rainwater which tasted really clear, I guess that sounds strange but it's the best way I can describe it, and ani's mad smoothie of spinach, banana, cacao and I've forgotten the last ingredient sorry.
Some of you might have to help me remember who made what etc http://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon11.gif
This is Janets first attempt at a raw dish I believe, the berry pie tasted fantastic;

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01519.jpg This is Margarets berry, cacao and cashew dessert, tasty and very filling.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01520.jpg I think we've got Karen's Super Bar chocs, ani's tasty fruit leather (pssst would love the recipe for the plum and ginger one), Claire's yummy mango cobbler which was divine (again a recipe would be great http://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ).
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01516.jpg And this is Ruth's amazing raw cake complete with fruit hearts on the top, so much work went into this and it was totally AWESOME, thanks Ruth http://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
It was great fun today, my first ever pot luck! Thanks ever so much for hosting it Karen :peace:

These raw food pot lucks just look fantastic. It might be worth planning a trip to Southampton sometime to join you! I so wish I was there.
so so so disappointed i wont be at the next one
i dont know where to find fat hen, jack by the hedge
and picking mushrooms alone scares me :)
finding a walnut tree would be so amazing
(i remember one from years ago i dont know if it is still there)
and can you eat raw chestnuts?
this is all my passion and i wont be able to indulge :(
i think we should have one the next weekend as well :)
i think you need to haverawcake in hampshire :)
just thinking about my smoothie it def wasn't spinach
i think (dont quote me) it was cavelo nero or it may have been pak choi
i dont remember what else was in it either maybe parsley or nettles
maybe reishi mushroom
it feels a lifetime away
anyway in this other new life i am going to be 100% raw :)

This weeks pot luck
Sunday 25th October
LOL forgot it was my wedding anniversary today...lucky for me Dave forgot to....mum reminded me when she turned up with a pressie for us both...9 years and look whats happened to my brain!!!
So anyway theme for this week is Wild Foods
I appreciate this maybe to great a task for some so please just bring the usual great stuff.
If you want bring anything collected and we can have a go at identifiying it!!!!
I have collected so far, or located ready to collect later in week!
Puff balls, field mushrooms (although might just eat them for tea!)
Oyster mushrooms, haws, nettles, Walnuts, Sweet chestnuts (yes raw)
Comfrey, plantain,
& will scour the hedgerows once the rains stop maybe thursday or Friday!
I dried the mushrooms as I wouldn't get another chance to get into the forest before Sunday, so I will rehydrate for a meal later in week.
Sadly for me my favorite walk round the bottom of my lane has been ruined by builders & plant machinery!!
Anyone else saddened by the reckless growth of M27 J5 slip roads!!!

Hello Karen
Never been to one of your pot luck events, i just buy lots of your yummy chocolate but they look very intresting...The only raw thing i have learnt to make so for is coconut macaroons and they don't last long in this house :p
I would love to come and find out more about eatting raw just need to find the time :rolleyes2:
I hope to make the next one but i'm not sure what to bring ??.....
See you at Sunnyfields for a chocolate refill !
Heidi
Yaaaay I reckon I'll be there complete with crutches, but I have been getting tired a lot so not sure how long I'll be able to stay for.
Anyone else saddened by the reckless growth of M27 J5 slip roads!!!OMG totally, and I don't even see why they need to do it, grrrrr.

Hi purplepunk (love the name btw), the coconut macaroons sound awesome and perfect for a christmas themed pot luck (I'm thinking igloo or snowman shapes here) ;) :xmas-smiley-010:

:welcome: Purple Punk
You're welcome at the pot luck, It really doesn't matter what you contribute in the way of food, we have had everything from watercress to gourmet cakes and everything in between!!
The beauty is that because it's not planned (well apart from the theme, but thats only a guide for ideas) we have had spectacular contributions.
See some of the pics above

I keep forgetting to take pics of the food at the pot lucks, I think todays of all days would have been inspiring to almost anyone!!!
We didn't have so many people, in a wonderful way this was great as I actually got to have a decent chat with amazing people, who on other weeks i've just managed a quick few words xx
Ruth produced the most amazing seabuckthorn & honey juice, I am in love xx
As well as some nettle & pinenut pesto and a tray of biscuits...amazing
not forgetting the pineapple & seabuckthorn shoe laces....would have been rude not to have eaten a bit of each.
A very tasty spiced salad pot was produced by Martine, a fabulous mixed salad bowl by Helen, and as always Janet trumped us all with a beautifully presented Nori rolls and cut tomatoes!!
My favorite week by far as I was able to show my passion, that is Wild Foods.
I made Comfrey & parsnip balls, sweet chestnut & walnut pie with wild mushrooms, nettle wraps with wild leaves, wild & garden herb salad, a bowl of extra sweet blackberries & apple and my favorite Hawthorn "turkish delight"
there were more and I'm sorry if I forgot any key dishes, it was all lovely.
As each season changes I think I will do a wild food.
Once every one left today our family went on a walk, I was blessed to see a deer really close, while gathering more foods...sweet chestnuts, apples, puff balls, sticky balls (forget name of plant..)
I really don't get the excuses that I hear often from the market that people can't afford to eat "well".....sad really....
Any way thinking ahead the next pot luck in 2 weeks is themed "cold foods in winter, no way" or something similar xxx
looking forward already...can I just say how great it was to see a couple of blokes popping in xxx :649:
I can't wait for the next seasonal wild food pot luck and would encourage anyone who can to come. This is true feast food.
LOL well I was going to take some photos but couldn't manage crutches as well!! http://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon11.gif
I'm actually not quite sure of some of the things I ate as a very kind lad filled my plate for me http://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon10.gif But I do remember Ruth's pineapple and seabuckthorn fruit leather...........AWESOME, and her biscuits which were really tasty, but don't remember what was in them http://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon11.gif
Nor do I x
Biscuits: I was trying to use sea buckthorn in as many ways as possible as they grow so near me and are so prolific this year.
So all of the mixes below have a quantity of sea buckthorn juice in. I am sitting in front of the screen eating them to work out what I did. Do other people just free-style their recipes?!
1. dates, dried apricots, sprouted sesame seeds, banana
2. macadamias, apples, dates
3. apples, apricots, raisins, sprouted sesame
4. bananas, coconut, mango, apricot
5. sprouted sesame, raisins, honey..maybe apricot kernals
6. pineapple, mango, banana
I have found that the wonderful tartness of sea buckthorn goes very well with apricots, mango, pineapple, honey and dates. Also quite good incorporated into salad dressings and of course, drinks. I too am in love with the honey/buckthorn juice. Absolute nectar. i would love to give this drink to the world.

I can't belive this has been on my mind so much, these pot lucks have become such a great therapy for all who come.
The next one is the day after Health Etcetera's opening day so all those attending that & the pot luck will get two days of serious gourmet foods!!!
yipee....I am so looking forward to this.....
I was seriously wondering what to do for the pot luck, I have themed it "cold in winter no way" now I am a bit worried as I rarely eat warmed foods anymore so am a little out of touch with what others are eating!!
I eat alittle dehydrated foods occaisionally but the days when we used to eat loads of warm foods to transition ourselves seems so many years ago!!
I have loads of books and am excited about trying new stuff...new?? new to us as I got the books recently and "discovered" I had been through these foods before!
Also slightly worried as there is a tiny possibility of my (totally meat eating non raw, very odd...shhhhh) Sister in law coming with her hubby & son.
I have invited them as I think they would benefit from a raw move!!!
Am I competely mad.....What have I done!!!!
:help:
She went mad at me pretty much the last time I saw her (last october) calling me a few choice things, because we have chosen to parent in a different way to her.
We are a Attachment Parenting, home educating, full term breastfeeding, Raw vegan, saving the planet....run of the mill kinda family....
and she.....well.....is not.
So if they come I need all the friends who come as my mental & psychological buffers of positive energy in my home.
I really do belive that the emotions a person carries to a place are transmitted to that place. So if I fill my home with the love I get from you guys then I WILL banish any negative emotions that may be trying to get in.
I will not allow our home to become a place of sadness....I love to greatly for that to happen:wave:
Jax sorry hun
banana and cinnamon
blend nana and sprinkle of cinammon without water
plum and ginger
blend plums and ginger without water
Ani x

Ah well in that case would it not be really cool to theme it as a Raw Christmas, so everyone can bring an alternative Christmas and show her a different way?? I'm thinking Ruth's sumptuous cakes with fab gold glitter, lots of red and deep green foods, your raw tempered chocs, I've got a ton of holly I can bring to help decorate your kitchen, I'm sure Ruth can bring lots of golden seabuckthorn and add a splash of red hawthorn berries and fir tree cuttings. Ooo and maybe a lovely warm orange and plum and cinnamon smoothie or something............OMG I love Christmas!! :hert::icon_cheesygrin:

I think thats a brilliant idea Jax....
Anyone reading this and coming to the next pot luck
lets impromptu theme it a " A christmas trial..."
So if we get warming foods great and bring on the holly...
regardless of whether "they" come or not we should have a party atmosphere....you lot are brilliant xxx lets celebrate our way of life!!
If the weather is ok I'll fire up the fire bowl...always adds to the fun xx:tea::wave:
can i just confirm
Rian 7th

what a rawsome weekend :party0007:

Yep, her & me what a great line up!!!
Am thinking of making another layered cake for this Sunday's pot luck as the last one seemed to go down well. I've given this one to non-raw people, including my non-raw family members, and they have all loved it without guessing it was raw vegan.
Chocolate and orange layers sound good? Suitably Christmassy do you think?
By the way, is the food on Saturday free? I've just looked at Rainforest Creations website and it looks heavenly.
Oh wow yeah chocolate and orange would be awesome Ruth http://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon11.gif

03-11-2009, 04:16 PM
Yes Ruth, I'm sure the food (lunch) is free & it says so on the healthetcetera website! I'm sure there will be other stuff (like green juice drinks and goods on the 'stalls') for sale, so take your pennies & pounds along. With a weekend of such brilliant (free!) Raw food education to look forward to almost on my doorstep in Winchester and Stoneham, my carrot top (orange hair for those who haven't met me!) has already sprouted in anticipation. :7854:

NO NO NO....don't be under any illusions.......badly worded text is no excuse but the FOOD IS NOT FREE
RAINFOREST CREATIONS are a BUSINESS and will be charging for ALL THE FOOD,
NOTHING other than the TALKS will be FREE!!!!
:rolleyes2:
karen @rawchocolateheaven
03-11-2009, 10:38 PM
Rain forest creations has just pulled out of doing the catering...I am now honoured to be doing it....
I am alittle stuck for help,
I could do with volunteers on the day to help with the chocolate stall.
also with food serving.
lunch is around 12`
karen @rawchocolateheaven
03-11-2009, 10:44 PM
sorry my little man pressed buttons before i finished!!!
please get back to me if you can spare a bit of time to help out
for anyone not in my loop of business ethics...i don't make any money...so volunteers are what i need xx
I even had to ask my mum to help my buy ingredients for the day!!!
thats how much "profit" i make lol
I could do with a helper on friday to come to my house and roll truffle balls & make courgetti spaghetti.....while i do everything to feed more than 100 people....
this is my calling & dream....shame not enough people came to the rawvolutionizing kitchen....still another time xxxx:tea:

Gosh, well done you for stepping in at the 11th hour! I can help you out for a few hours on Friday:638: & also on Sat.
As I said I can help you set up on Sat ;)
Friday may be a little trickier as although I'm signed off work sick, they asked me to go through some log books and paperwork :rolleyes2: so a colleague is bringing them round in the afternoon...........thankfully they stopped my manager coming with them, he would've completely stressed me out if he had!!!
karen @rawchocolateheaven

Brilliant..thank you for all offers of help...
Most needed on Saturday, please just find me (bring an apron if you have one) an I will assign any needed tasks xxx
bless you all
All you lovlies who also get to our impromptu party on Sunday I will thank better then xxx
have been flat out working since rainforest dropped out!!!
difficult bit is guestimating volumes!!!
I have gone for variety rather than volumes of one or two things!!!
hope it works out...already messed up one batch of minted deli wraps....not enouth flax in the mix...but hey they still are workable!!!
dad is helping me out in food prep...he was a proffessional Chef a few years back....very handy...all I have to say is (once) like this...voila...I get a huge pile of prepped veg!!!
brilliant
Would anyone be interested in a section at the pot luck entitled, 'Recipes that went wrong which I find inedible, but somebody might like?'
I have made several things this week that I can't eat... and still have things in the freezer that I don't consider good enough to give away like 3 mince pies from last christmas that were far too sweet, or goju berry fudge where I don't particularly like the maca; or biscuits that are too oaty/bitter etc.
I am the only raw food eater in this household so I often make too much anyway then find there is no room in the freezer. Plus some recipes that I follow arn't very good anyway; or are too rich. There must be somebody that would like them tho, so what do you think of an unwanted food section where we could bring our less than truimphs? They could be thrown away to do good in Karen's compost if no one wants them.
karen @rawchocolateheaven
08-11-2009, 08:55 AM
Any experiments that you wish to share (wrong or right ) bring to pot luck, I am sure you will find people who are not only glad for different flavors but can then go away and create a variation that you might then like the following week!
The Clock is now tick rather quickly towards todays 12 and people coming and I haven't done my mince pies! will chuck them together in a minute!!!
After I say a huge :present: thank you to all involved in yesterdays Health Etcetera open day.... I really could not have done it without the support, time & passion of those who helped me...
I was blessed to have the people who were perfect for the job doing the job.....those that new most about my chocolate sold chocolate....those able to stand all day and serve food did that....and those able to chop fast did that to!!! xxxxx big love to you all
I loved the day, for the first time in ages I felt a really positive vibe with a massive group of people...this really is something that people want & need!....I am honored to be involved with Health Etcetera and look forward to catering other events in the future xxx & I hope you all look forward to eating the food we all make xxx
thankyou once again for opening your home to all of us
rawsome time

Yes, Ani's choc log was a - maze - ing, not heavy at all, so you would have luuuved it Ruth! Also first time I'd eaten hawthorn leaves. Thanks Ani for treating us & great piccies Jax. No nori snowflakes left for the later arrivals yesterday as they'd all melted by then :45:
What was in the nori snowflakes Carrot?

Ruth, Sorry to disappoint, but the Nori Snowflakes were very simple indeed, and no carrots involved :-) Just snowflake shapes cut out of sheets of dried nori (very fiddley due to risk of dried nori sheet cracking(!) but made in the same way as kiddies do by folding up a piece of square paper & cutting out bits along the folds & edges, then..... opening the folded paper back out and a magical snowflake shape appears!)
Not disappointing at all! Gives me loads of ideas! Thank you!
if the weather holds out
not like tonight :(
i will see you tomorrow
to feast my eyes on your choco delights :)

Wow already the next pot luck is looming...well next Sunday
December 6th
The theme is Creations
Please feel free to Create the most Spectacular Lavish Raving Raw Dish you have ever made
and bring this to our home
I'm really excited because I am doing the next 5 days in Health Etcetera on a juice fast....whoopie ....to leave then have you all come round....
I am bursting with excitement!!!!!
please do not bring cartons as they invaribly get left and we don't actually drink them so they (sadly) get forgotten about then have to be thrown away.....
fresh fruit is welcomed and we can juice it then for the luck xxxx
:peace: Massive thank you to all who have made this such a fantastic event xxxx
To any one who is interested, I am bringing a box full of festive treats this Sunday(including jammie dodgers) to make it easier for people to stay raw over Christmas.
It is going to be my last pot luck at Karen and Dave's home until the end of March, so apart for the chocolate feast to take place here on the 3rd January I will be away until Easter time. I will miss you all!
See you on Sunday for more gorgeous food and friends!

20-12-2009, 07:43 PM
Thank you all that came today, we did eventually get the fire bowl going despite soggy wood and ice!
The Chestnuts were a nice warm treat, as were the roasted bananas that Janet bought along and we ate...odd with a smattering of ash that crept in to the slit we made in each of them, however I recommend them heartely!!
I had 2 and that was after proclaiming I was completely stuffed on the food inside...then I had loads of chestnuts xxxx yum!!!
A good number came today and a couple of new faces.
The food as always was wonderful, we had the usual spectacular display of Cakes, Stollen (thanx Claire), mince pies, Christmas puddings (thanx mum) chocolates, Snow balls (thanx Jax) and the savorys were amazing, salads, wraps, spring rolls, mariana noodles, crackers, nori rolls, biscuits...the list goes on
As this is the last of the year
I wanted to hug all of you so much, to say a massive thank you for all the food that you keep on producing, I don't think we have had the same meal twice!!!
Thank you:party0007:and really looking forward to the first Pot Luck that will be Ruths to host, and what a treat we have in store.
A little different to the usual pot luck because she is doing all the food and we are paying a small (for the value of food it's very small) amount to go along...
I encourage all who were thinking at who have not yet confirmed, please do and you will be amazed.
Warning...do not leave it to the last minute before deciding as I believe numbers are capped....
and a double warning DO NOT EAT BEFORE YOU GO .....LOL:tea:
Sounds so wonderful. Sorry i couldn't make it today. Hope you all had a great time. Happy Christmas!! x

Hurray you're home Ani!!! Southampton is suddenly brighter!
You are all very welcome at my place on Sunday! The feast begins at normal pot luck time: 12 noon: and will end when we're full! Come along Jess, it will be lovely to have you join us!
It costs 10 pounds sterling to come and I hope you will all feel that it is worth it! One tip: don't have too much breakfast on Sunday! And if you can park in one of the car parks by the shop that would be better than in front of the house as there's not going to be enough space on the road.
if you need my address do PM or email me within the next couple of days and I'll get back to you. I will have to cap the numbers at 30 because I don't want us fighting over the food!
I'll defo be there Ruth, I need a good choccy feast ;)
Great! What with missing the last pot luck it feels ages since I've seen you!

Why oh why is Southampton so far away from Glasgow?
:( :( :( :( :(
Erm the same reason that Glasgow is so far from Southampton?? :pout: :p http://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
I'm sorry you can't join us Kirsteen. it would be lovely if you could come but I know all things work out for the best for us all; and maybe, just perhaps one day you will be hosting your own chocolate feast for the lucky raw fooders in Glasgow who will be amazed at your skill and knowledge. I have to tell you that a year ago I wouldn't have believed I could do this, so who knows the possibilites for you. This New Year could be the best ever in turn arounds!
Can I just ask anyone coming on Sunday....I'dd be grateful for some fresh salad leaves to put on the table. I seem to have made a lot of dishes but do need some fresh leaves as I'm not going to have time to get any tomorrow. Any baby salad leaves, particularly bitter would be gratefully recieved!

I know you know that I'm coming on Sunday Ruth. I'll be driving from Winchester, so if anyone would like a lift they can just PM me.
Do you want to save a car jamming up Ruth's road and swing by and pick me up CT???
Talking about not jamming up my road this is better. Instead of turning left into my road, veer right towards the shop straight ahead of you; there is a car park next to it. If no spaces left in that one there will be plenty overlooking the water if you continue to drive on up that road. They are mostly P&D spaces but it's easier than having to get a permit to park on the road which I have to give you otherwise! It is a matter of moments to walk back to my house and I will hang a balloon out of the window so you know where to come.
LOL I don't think my car will jam anywhere at the mo.................it was dead as a Dodo this morning!!! http://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Well Ruth, what can I say about the absolute feast of goodies you treated us all to yesterday at your Chocolate Feast event! I expect Jax will have some piccies up here soon so that those that missed out can drool over the different dishes. Thanks you so much for the hours and hours of 'work' you put into creating it all for us to enjoy. I hope you are having a very well earned rest today and possibly for the next few days as well.

Karen - Are you still planning to do your Sushi demo at the Pot Luck this coming Sunday (17th)? Shall we each just bring along 'anything raw' as usual (along with our own plate/bowl & cutlery of course!)? :-)
I expect Jax will have some piccies up here soon so that those that missed out can drool over the different dishes.

I was planning to have a selection of ingredients all prepared as my contribution to the pot luck, hoping that a demo would be people bringing Sushi ideas to the day....really would like to expand my knowledge as I have seen some spectacular ideas and rally enjoy nori rolls...
So anyone got great ideas or a proven basic that they would love to share then please feel free to contribute in the same sort of way..
Examples to enhance sushi ideas are
Ginger
Wasabi
Shoyu
Pickles
chopped cauliflower
chopped pinenuts
marinated and dehydrated veg
especially
onions
mushrooms
peppers
any sprouts esp. alfalfa
avocado
lettuce leaves
green leaves
dried tomatoes
exotic sauce concotions that are thick like double cream
mmmmm
can't wait
so if you all bring what you fancy (hint hint from the list) then we shall all enjoy my favorite food!!!!
If you can't be bothered then normal exotic fare is just fine xxxx
I like Ruths suggestion that we should bring what we normally have for lunch one time...except I do eat what I make for pot luck as my usual meals!!
sorry to dissapoint those that thought I eat just leaves...lol...
Thats why I am allways trying to loose weight !!!!!XXXXX:peace:
The sushi rolls are not a great creation when made by me, but I can bring alfafa sprouts!! And might be able to do the avocado too, I'll check how ripe mine are, I also have some shoyu and I think a couple of sheets of nori, not sure!
hi there my huns
remember i bought too much sea spaghetti :)
do you think anyone will want to buy some ?
i have eventually opened the pack today
and 1k is rather a lot for little me.
it has a 2 year sell by date on it.

It was a good meet up, especially watching Karen eating her nori draught excluder!!! http://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
I really WILL do the pics this week, I'm sorry I haven't done it as yet, things have been very hectic!!
Thanks everyone for another wonderful pot luck! You all inspire me to make more of an effort back at home. I had never made 'proper' sushi before today and without this pot luck would not have known I had the skill...so thank you!
Yep, Karen wins the prize for most imaginative stuffing (and topping eh) of a nori roll. I never knew so much could be stuffed into something so small. I think I need lessons from the pro.
By the way Karen, thinking of how you could grow your business, I would regularly buy BIG bags of those kale crunchy bits with the sweet cheese topping; and any of your sauces which are always sublime. I don't know about everyone else but I am guessing they like me don't often make sauces for themselves. I would think of it as a treat to buy them; especially if you varied recipes to season when you had a glut of something. Just a thought...and a hint because we all appreciate your food so much...as expressed in Claire's lovely poem.
What's the new water source ani?

Massive thankyou to all who came yesterday...and yes I would have cried if I had not had all of you in the kitchen!
Your gifts, poem card were so amazing I thankyou from the bottom of my heart xxx Bless you all
Well that brings me onto the next pot luck, It's down as "the best of January 2010"

if you feel this is an opportunity to "showcase" your favorite meal, of simply be inspired by what your garden is growing, it's truely up to you xx

Wow Karen, that sounds great! I'd just like to thank you and everyone at the Pot Luck yesterday. I really enjoyed it and the food was fantastic! Thank you all for making me feel so very welcome. 6-6 All things sweet -- Cookie Competition winner gets a prize x
AHAAAAA brilliant choice for 2 days before my birthday!!!! :5149::638::798::7841:
This 'menu' for a year of pot luck's sounds absolutely wonderful Karen! I look forward to every single one of them, with HUGE regret that I will be away for the 'Month of birthday's (Nooooo!!) exotic fruit (NOOOOO!) AND the cookie competition Jax. (NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOO!)
What can I do? I'm booked up ahead for those weeks! And I don't want to become obsessive or pathetically beg that you change the dates!
However (calming down now) what about a birthday party here for you Jax after I get back on the 13th June...or anytime over the summer? There are loads of ideas for ice-cream cakes, cookies, sorbets etc travelling around in my mind; not to mention the inspiration I intend to pick up over the time in America this spring. I can't eat everything I make myself so please come round again. I need you to eat these ideas!
Karen!! Of course you're not pushing your luck in suggesting a New Year pot luck here. It can happen with pleasure. Wow, a whole year to dream up ideas for that one! You're all so appreciative and enthusiastic that it makes it a total joy to make food you want to drool over.
One thing more: it's going to take me at least 3 -4 weeks to do the recipes from the choc pot luck. Not just becuse it's more work than I thought, but because our printer has died and we need to buy a new one. I don't know exactly when that will be happening, but i'll keep working on the recipes in case it appears in our study! The longer it takes to buy a printer the more content will be in the booklet as i keep making more so either way it will benefit you I hope.
karen @rawchocolateheaven

Please feel free to offer any other party or date, the pot luck dates are an opportunity for us all to gather, but by no means should they be the only time we gather and stuff our selves with cakes!!!
We could have a roving tea party, maybe the opportunity for anyone who can not come and that has the room could offer for example a midweek (evening?) tea party, whereby we (those who want) bring a cake or two to share and we all binge on cups of herbal tea and slabs of cake or cookies or ice cream or any other sweet fantasy we can come up with.
This is a valuable opportunity if some regulars can't make a date, or just another opportunity to get together xx
For our family personally the opportunity to eat raw communially is proving increasingly valuable, it showing our (largely non raw children) that it's ok, even normal as we are all doing it, it also encourages them to be proactive when making shopping choices, one (no names) lists wants each week from the local stupormarket and recently the list has changed a bit, less biscuits and not a substitution but happy to wait til we have made something raw!
For me I am only to glad to share the space to a large number of pot luckers!!
Did you know that if everyone came who either has been or who has expressed an interest in coming we would have more than 60 people!!!
please bear this in mind when opening your own space!!!
It is also the reason I ask for e mail notification that people are coming, I appreciate that usually we have a lovely number but I expect one day everyone will say "Yes"
Brilliant idea re the extra birthday party...anyone else in June??

Karen just to let you know I've just sent you a friend request and was going to add a message saying who I was but stupidly hit send before I could do that so the request from Kirsteen is from me. :wave:D'uh - someday I'll get the hang of facebook :confused2:
I appreciate what you say Karen and we can come up with new party and get-together ideas as the year progresses. Yes, let's do a birthday party for you all in June. Maybe that's the time for the hot-pant meet at Bournemouth; who knows!
Sorry if I get too enthused. It is too good that's all. After years of being alone in this endeavour it is life-changing to have others that feel the same way as you. Particularly as it's about the food we eat. Eating together is so fundamental to our human experience, and to finally be able to DO it... well no wonder I for one want to open up every door in my house to share the feeling of abundant joy.
Wow Ruth how could I ever say no??? :peace:

Oh and it's errrr a mega no for me and hotpants!!!

on 28th March I have posted the idea "Fruits, What do they all taste like?"
I am going to buy a hamper from Orkos of exotic fruit so please if anyone would like to chip in that would be great, or Durian anyone?
hamper price is around £100 incl delivery (I am happy to scoff the lot if no one else is interested!!) or I will share if contributions are recieved xxxx
mmmmmm:phone::7854:LOL!!!
Well I'm defo interested in seeing what these amazing Durian taste like??? :noidea:
That sounds so wonderful: What a great idea! I hope you'll take a photo for me and describe the durian!
As Karen's theme for the pot luck is 'best of raw' I am bringing Jax's suggestion of a Victoria Sponge cake with cream and jam. Hope that's OK. I actually think best of raw is honey mangoes and God help my finances when they come back in season. I'll have to make so many truffles to pay for them!
I may bring some chocs and biscuits (rest of the dogders) to sell this time too. Is that OK with you? Rian has suggested that her clients may be interested.
LOL I've gone with the theme Jan 31 - Pot Luck - Celebrating January 2010 whats this year mean for you?
I'm making Ani Phyo's cheezecake as 2010 is going to be hard work and very expensive for me :o

I'm also going with the theme - what 2010 means 4 U....
Just read posts above about Durian! Last month I bought some freeze dried durian from Funky Raw, with the intention of bringing it along to the last Pot Luck to share....... BUT it was so yummy it all ended up in MY tummy! By chance, I discovered some frozen durian (100% durian, without seed/skin) in shop in Portswood this wednesday & couldn't resist buying some, to see how it compared to the dried version. The article on page 40 of current issue of Get Fresh mag is so right when it says it "smells like hell but tastes like heaven". I could defrost the remaining one I've got & bring along on Sunday if anyone wants to try it??? Let me know :-) Ruth, I'll bring along Get Fresh mag as there are luuuuvelly pics of Durian, Rambutan, Mamey Sapote, Wani, Mangosteen & Safo fruits (and more!) to drool over - all of which I'd never heard of before!
Karen - re ordering from Orkos, YES PLEASE, had seen ad in same mag but not got around to checking out their website yet. Happy to contribute towards cost.
thanks Carrot Top! I also tried the freeze-dried durian from funky raw and ate it all! Wow it was gorgeous! See you on Sunday!

Wow, can I just say how amazing todays food was.
mountains of food, I managed (i think) at least a mouthful of each. My favorite plate was the cake plate, a spoon of trifle, 6 slices of cake, a spoon of mouse & pineapple and finished with a handful of lychees & dried fruit and a few spoons of Durian xxxx
I couldn't get enough of the sunflower pate with wild hog flowers seeds, well really I enjoyed everything.....the green leaves piled high with lashings of pate, humous, crackers, marinated veg & much much more...I have truely landed in heaven...this food... I feel so blessed that you all make such amazing foods xxxx
:first:
Well it was also the first time I tried Durian and am completely in love, this was not the fresh stuff but frozen and for the first time I have tried it I was impressed xxx will be hunting down supplies, and as I discovered today, many shops in Southampton sell it!!!! including the Chinese corner shop literally 5 minutes from my front door xxxx yipee!!!!
Carrot Top
01-02-2010, 07:43 PM
Totally agree Karen. Lots of things I'd never tried before, like the sweet tamarind - luuuvelly. Do hope your house no longer smells of the Durian (unless of course you have already bought some more!)
My fave was Ruth's 'accidental' pineapple crisp bread, with Jax's lemon cheesecake e very close second. I didn't even see the sunflower pate with wild hog flowers seeds, so my motto for next time is " less chat & more concentration on the FOOD"!
Took the opportunity to treat myself to a bag of Kale Krisps & also a bag of the Choisees (Choiseurs??). Wrapper is buried amongst veggie/fruit peelings so haven't checked the name! I'm not really a raw choc choc-a-holic, but they tasted wonderful, so thank you so much - will be on the look out for more. :-)

It's "Choshi" taking chocolate & sushi & making that!!!!
There used to be a thai chef at sunnyfields, he tried it and proclaimed it the best thing he had ever eaten! he followed me allround the shop telling me how great it was!...I have much to be thankful for, I had a wild moment of inspiration a long time ago and came up with
Choshi - Chocolate Sushi
Choc Dums _ Chocolate dim sums
Choc Doodles - Chocolate noodles
All have made apperances on the stall but the Choshi is by far the best xx
Still hav'n't bought more Durian, maybe try and get out today!
I think I can feel a fruit binge coming on, having lived on green for the best part of winter...now bored and feel a fruit feast coming on..last night for my "dinner" I had a plate of mango & Lychees! yum!
My fave was Ruth's 'accidental' pineapple crisp bread, with Jax's lemon cheesecake e very close second. Oh wow thanks for that CT!!! :peace: Yeah Ruth's pineapple crisps were immense, ha ha I love her 'mistakes' they are always awesome!!
The sweet tamarinds were awesome too well into them.................unlike the durian :hand:
Thank you for another amazing feast on Sunday. I'm only just getting over it, for I don't know about all of you, but it takes a few days to get back to normal eating afterwards. I cannot believe how much food turns up and how delicious it all is!
I think my favourite from Sunday was carrot top's tiny wee mushrooms (what are they called?) which were so light and sweet. I loved them. And the tarmarind fruit; and the durian if i'd found it before it had all gone!
And what puddings! I think i'll stop buying nuts for home... we get the monthly quota from all those incredible nut-based desserts! Fruit and vegtable juice needed for a week afterwards though....thanks again!
They're called enoki I think Ruth :victory:
PICTURES!!!!! These are all from Rut's amazing Chocolate Feast (Ruth you'll have to help me out with what it all was.
This was the amazing sight that greeted us!http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01633.jpg with this centrepiece http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01635.jpg
This was a massive chocolate cake with gold stars on; http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01638.jpg and a slice of it; http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01652.jpg

Amazing choc trifle! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01645.jpg and white choc peppermint hearts; http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01642.jpg
And finally.........
The amazing jammy dodgers; http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01641.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01640.jpg
I fell in love with these cookies with chocolate and caramel sauce..............heaven!!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01637.jpg
LOL I've just realised that I've totally focussed on the desserts, there was also some chocolate influenced savouries, some lovely orange jellies, and apricot egg nog !!
You have pictured: savouries...choc falafels; cigars; dehydrated pineapple; gravy; choc-miso nori triangles; cos lettuce with taco filling and soupr cream; there were different crackers and red pepper macadamia cheese also.
Sweets: the centrepiece was a rose flavoured white chocolate heart;a spiced winter-wamer cake topped with berries;truffles pies; caramel walnut squares; peppermint squares; malty fudge; rose-pistachio halva; ferroro rocher; duo mints; the choc/orange trifle;dogders and choc-chip biscuits; more truffle and mince-pies and the fudgy cookies with caramel sauce. oh and I think I can see a truffle-stuffed apricot!
By the way, there was a lot of caramel sauce left over so I piped it out onto a teflex sheet to make little buttons and deydrated them overnight. It made lovely little caramelly drops to put in the next batch of cookies!
I don't know about you but all this chocolate at the start of the year has done the trick. I have not wanted much since! If we ever planned another feast I think I might make even more juice to go with all the rich stuff.
I will now go and buy some enoki... thanks for that!

Those are just the most amazing photos.
Again I wish I was in Southampton and could join you all.
Ruth - you are an artist!
Claire at raw4diabetes.com has also got some great photos, although the whole of her blog is worth reading. It's beautifully done.
Those are just the most amazing photos.
Again I wish I was in Southampton and could join you all.
Ruth - you are an artist!
LOL the photos were taken on my mobile so are quite poor quality...............SO it has to be all Ruth's raw artistry that make them look good ;) :D
By the way, there was a lot of caramel sauce left over so I piped it out onto a teflex sheet to make little buttons and deydrated them overnight. It made lovely little caramelly drops to put in the next batch of cookies!
OMG I can't waaaaaaaaaaaaait!!!! :whoo::party0010::party0006::870:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01679.jpg start with this...........and add some of this.........http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01678.jpg
Then embellish with this.....http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01681.jpg and top off with some yummy sauces....http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01683.jpg ...and if you couldn't manage it Ruth made some divine ones!!
One of my fave green things ever, kale and ricotta crisps;
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01685.jpg
Then for dessert we were treated to Carrot Tops Biscru's and Ruth's divine raw cake!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01680.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01682.jpg
Please do add if I've forgotten anything http://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon11.gif
The theme was what 2010 means to you, and we had a massive range of different raw delicacies!
Ruth's houmous and broccoli with ricotta (I think) some were crisps and were gorgeous!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01713.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01712.jpg see the thin crisps on the white plate, another of Ruth's amazing mistakes, pineapple crisps, divine!!
The strange looking things at the bottom are sweet tamarind...............AWESOME!! And I can't remember whose dish that is at the top - help lol
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01711.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01710.jpg
Karen's scrumptious burgers in onion bread at the top, and falafal and mango chutney, YUM!!
These are the enoki that Ruth was talking about, brought by Carrot Top - her 2010 is about being happy http://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01708.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01707.jpg
On to the desserts, the one in the foreground is a lemon cheezecake (a whole vanilla pod & 6 lemons went in! With pistachio and macadamia base) made by me cos my 2010 is going to be difficult and expensive!!! (this pic is especially for Ed ;) )
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01702.jpg
Next up is Ruth's raw sponge cake with many layers!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01703.jpg
Then came Karen's trifle with rose topping and lavender cream and jelly at the bottom made with agar (I think!!)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01704.jpg
And then Helen's mango and pineapple pie (I think I got that right!), and at the top is Karen's spirulina and chocolate pies.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01706.jpg
And THEN if all that wasn't enough Ruth and Karen did a shop for us to buy their delicacies!! :7854: (Ruth you'll have to help me out with the items!!!) Again these were taken on my mobile so don't really do the products justice!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01722.jpg I think the ones on the left were choc and malt cookies - absolutely heavenly, my teen totally loved these!!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01717.jpg The gold ones were Harrod's truffles..............I have to say both me and my teen had a moment eating these mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm SO creamy!!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/ShaunRydersBrainCell/Raw%20in%20UK/DSC01716.jpg Lovely valentines hearts!
You do make ths site look lovely Jax, thank you for that; it's really nice to be able to show friends who can't make it or are wondering what we eat. It also encourages us to bring our creations to the pot luck knowing that they will be enjoyed. Your cheescake really was amazing. I only wish I'd had room for more at that point. Perhaps you'll make it again one day... (hint)
By the way, the pineapple crisps were made with half celery, half pineapple... those two work really well together. The broccoli dish was broccoli with a savoury/sweet pecan sauce; The crunchy buns were white choc with mulberries, buckwheaties and barberries: And the biscuits you pictured at the top were a choc/cherry/vanilla doughs marbled together and goju/banana/coconut hearts.
Seeeeee, there's no way I was going to remember that lot ^^ :(
LOL thanks for the cheesecake compliment http://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Well, you lot have inspired me so much with your amazing pictures that I am planning a trip for October already. I looked through the year and the only one we could feasibly come to is October 24th so I am going to sort it out and organise a weeks trip to the area around it. Thankyou so much Karen for planning out the year like this. I am not entirely sure how we will manage to bring ice cream while travelling but perhaps our contribution will need to be something slightly more travel friendly! I will see what I can come up with.
Annette
Karen....could you post what you want us to bring on Sunday for our next pot luck? The theme is juice and that's fine, but do you want any food as well?
karen @rawchocolateheaven
13-02-2010, 02:49 PM
Please feel free to bring whatever takes your fancy, Yes, The theme is Juices and I would love to see some different concoctions!! that really challenge the taste buds.....anyone juiced a durian?????
Some examples are
nut or seed milks
pure fruit juices
mixed veg juices
smoothies
cacao concoctions
soups
green juices
If food arrives then this is fine but me personally I am just making wet things..... we could allways juice the food offerings just to keep the theme!!!lol!!!!
Hey Karen , I won't be able to make it today, after a stressful week, rocking gig, a raucous 18th party and no sleep last night, I am absolutely shattered :bored::bored::bored:

:wave:The pot-luck today was brilliant. Who would have thought that juices could be so filling? There were savoury juices and sweet juices and each and every one was different - so many fantastic flavours. The maca juice was fab. It felt like a real party and someone said it resembled a wine tasting session - and it did. We all stood around the table commenting on every juice, like wine experts, and I thought it was great. Thanks Karen for hosting and preparing and bringing us all together. This raw appreciation community is really growing.
yes i really enjoyed my 'wine' tasting today
as ever delish delights
thanX everyone

Hi Jax
Just to say thanks for the great pictures you have posted in this thread. A great reminder of all the luuuuvelly raw food we have been treated to already this year, & it's only Feb!
An amazing aray of juices at todays Pot Luck. Has given me ideas for combinations I would never have thought of!
Thanks everyone for the best pot luck yet! So many beautiful juices....what a treat to have them made for us by our friends.

Hi Karen
What's the theme of the next pot luck on the 28th February 2010?
Carrot Top
21-02-2010, 07:56 PM
Hi Marie
Entry number 96 of this thread is where Karen has listed all the themes for all of her Pot Lucks for the rest of this year! It's an awesome list... I wont spoil the surprise about this coming Sunday's theme and let you discover it for yourself!
So glad to see you are already thinking about what special dish you are going to make for us all next Sunday! I'd better get my thinking cap on as well...
Actually I'll add them to Karen's first post so that people don't have to root through too much to find them............ha ha although they get to see the pics if they do ;)
There all added to first post :)
karen @rawchocolateheaven
22-02-2010, 12:19 PM
page 10 is entry #96
but anyway here goes with a few ideas to inspire anyone...
Antipasta, baklava, cherries, dolmandes, eggplant, falafel, grapes, halva....
Pizza, Pasta, Paella...
Olives, Okra, Dolmandes...
Gateaux, Gallettes, Grapes...
The fertile crescent, Turkey, Italy, Morrocco, Israel, Spain.... the opportunities to create something from the "Med" are huge...
Happy creating xxxx

23-02-2010, 12:08 PM
That would be helpful Jax as it will be the first thing people see when looking for the pot luck - and some photographs would be good on the front page too. Thanks

Many thanks. Found the theme and now thinking!! I am coming and bringing a friend and it is her first time around raw. Sooooo I think she will be amazed. See you Sunday.

23-02-2010, 04:48 PM
OK Karen - I guess you must be a real fan of Dolmandes, as you have sneaked them into your suggestions list twice! I'll show my ignorance here by saying I have no idea what they (or Galettes for that matter!) are, so feel a google moment coming on! :-)
Aren't they something wrapped in vine leaves??
karen @rawchocolateheaven
24-02-2010, 11:39 AM
Dolmandes are little bundles of vine leaves that have vinegared rice in them...lovely...can you make a raw version?????
Gallettes are thin little biscuits typically topped with slithers of toasted almonds and fruits.... again yum!!!!
morning everyone
hopefully someone will log in this morning :help:
could i grab a lift off someone pretty please
as i really want to come
but am having difficulties driving.
ThanX

Well thank you to all who came today...
And please don't be shy in spreading out into the lounge and eating, it might mean we all sit on cusions on the floor but if it works it could be greatxxx
Where do I begin!!!
We had loads of people, the theme of Medditeranian food went down really nicely, The freshness of the salads, boldness of flavours and colour all reminded me of different countries from the med!
What that area is famous for is precisely what and why we celebrated today,
thank you
Hopefully the weather should soon start to brighten & warm up and we can spill out onto the deck, lazy afternoons on hamocks & beanbags eating & chatting are right up my street.
For anyone with children (especially young ones) this is a great time to bring them along as the increased space helps make everyone feel less squashed!
Thank you all who are prepared to be squashed.
I am working on a few ideas to create better use of space, I like the table in the centre, I appreciate that it means squeezing by those who are sitting on the sides but it does mean less of a rugby scrum getting to just one side of it, as it was before.
The bench works well so I will try & get Dave to make another one!! or 2!
The mini shop is working really well and thank you to all who bought from it.
Might try putting the puddings in the lounge, we tried that once before and it seemed to work and people were more inclined to go in the lounge and it spread everyone out, giving opportunity for lots of different chats...
Will see...
Any preferences or ideas then please feel free to post
And just a quickie and I can't believe I am saying this
Next Pot Luck is themed
"Our month of Birthdays if we've missed yours, now is the time to celebrate. Bring Cakes!!"
Brilliant...this was such a good idea!!! xxxx
Here are some photos of todays potluck, again somebody may have to help me out with what they are etc!

Thank you very much, Karen, for another wonderful Pot Luck! My friend Anne really enjoyed it too. She was very impressed with all the different dishes and flavours and enjoyed meeting everyone. She’d love to come again!
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make it next time as it’s Mother Day (I’ll be making a semi-raw meal for my parents!), but I’d love to come on 28th March, for the exotic fruits. If you do decide to buy a hamper from Orkos I’d be interested in contributing.
Thanks again! Love from Karen xx
I'd love to make /butterfly/ cakes Jax but am not sure my experiments with raw 'sponge' are successful enough to get the right texture. The buttercream is easy though...I'll have a go if I get time.
(I am making your dodgers today so feel free to collect them from me after tomorrow.)
One more thing: How about a pot luck one summer evening just for the girls with raw beauty products we've made and brought along? Avocado and spirulina face masks; oaty foot scrubs, strawberry cleansers etc. I've never done this myself but sounds like lots of fun!
karen I didn't realise that sweet sheep was you!
Lovely thanks Ruth http://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
Yeah that's sounds really good.................IF we can stop ourselves eating the gogeous raw skincare products ha ha :7854:

Hi Ruth, yes, that's my little alias! Oaty foot scrubs sound fun!
just too agree with everyone
another fabulistic rawsome day.
thanX Karen for allowing us to take over your home again.
the face thing is fun
i did it with my residents when we had a house full of girls.
we had great fun and i have some recipes if anyone wants some :party0007:
not sure how much raw as they are on the comp at work.
sadly they have moved on and we never got the photos developed
from their camera phones.
but what with tumeric and bananas
well need i say anymore .
love
Ani
xxx
Yes please to the tumeric and banana faces ani! I knew you'd have done this before and have ideas!
I used to make what a called a, 'primordial bath.' I'd tip in spirulina, green tea leaves, salt and anything green lying around; nettles etc. I'd reccomend it for deep relaxation; perfect skin and hair, and those who love cleaning baths of algae residue.

Great pics again Jax.
Yes Karen, I agree having the table in middle of kitchen is better, especially for us small people with short arms :-) Also, puds in lounge worked well, as it's soooo difficult to resist tasting all the scrummy desserts before mains, if they are right before our eyes...
I would offer to bring candles to the next Pot Luck for all your birthday cakes but I'm not sure my supermarket will have enough in stock! I'll bring one very large one that you can all share.
Roll on the better weather when we can all be outside.

POT LUCK 28th March
Advance notice
This pot luck is themed Exotic Fruits, what do they all taste like?
I will be ordering a hamper from Orkos to try and get fruits in season and ripe for us all to try
To balance it out everyone who comes to that weeks pot luck will pay a % of the cost of the fruits
the price of the hamper divided by the number of people regardless of wether they have bought extra fruit.
Please do bring more fruits as the hamper although they look big on the web site I bet they are really not huge!!!
They cost around £100 + delivery and I will have to specially ask for extras xx
WOW I've been home nearly 2 hours now and I'm still stuffed, never will I have my breakfast smoothie before a pot luck again!!! Yes, we did get the best pickings by arriving at 12noon precisely! Also, it gave time for our 'preliminary course' to go down a little before everyone else joined in for the main feast :-)
ok so we were late
i take full responsibility for faffing around :party0007:
it was still an amazing spread when we got there
and i went home feeling stuffed of the most rawsome delights xxx

For the up and coming pot luck themed Exotic Fruits
Again reminder this is slightly different as there will be money involved.
Dividing the cost of the imported fruit by the number of people who actually turn up.
& yes it will be counting everybody man woman & child!! I know many a child who will eat loads of fruit!!
Also here are some ideas to contribute to the hamper
check out the local oriental shops see whats lurking in them...
make foods from the most exotic fruits you can find?
how about a dragon fruit jelly or a passion fruit biscuit
or juice of a durian?
the world is your oyster and please feel free to interpret the theme however you like!!
Here's some pics from today's pot luck;

Yes Ruth, you missed a real treat, although some of the fruits didn't taste as good as they looked - I'm thinking Star Fruit, Prickly Pear & the small brown oval stringy things. Ramboutan (very similar to lychee in texture) was luuuush!
Basically anything that was a faff to eat and had tons of seeds in was on my naff list :D But it was a good experience and I now know I like pomelo and still LOVE mango :victory:
I tried a tiny little yellow appple-type thing yesterday which may have been a custard apple. It was lovely but with a lot of seeds.
Mangoes are readily available here, and not just one variety, but 4 or 5 in a single shop. Tonight I made a pudding from 3 small mangoes, 1 huge banana and a tbsp raw pecan butter. Heavenly: like an up-market custard!
We had custard apples ioo Ruth, quite nice, but had too many large black pips so was a bit annoying for me lol http://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon11.gif
yes Jax but i did manage to snuck it back it in some sneaky moment in fruity time :pirate:

Up & Coming Pot Luck
SOURCE WITHIN 100 MILES
that does not mean your local tesco!!!!lol
so no bananas that would be cheating!!!!
Check out the farms in and around Hampshire
Sunnyfields....!!
the WaterCress farms
Leckford Estate now that could be a good one
My mate Richard who owns a exotic mushroom farm near Ringwood email richard.sawden@hotmail.co.uk (richard.sawden@hotmail.co.uk)
all along the Hamble are some great farms (not all organic but worth a look)
and of course wild food that are poping up all over the place.
and to be fair we are raw foodists and there are some great bee keepers in the area for pollen & honey
and for the more adventurous of you tecnically there are many meats that are raw, bill tong or jerky or dry vors or proscuttio or others. Now I know thats contraversial but some people in conversion do eat regular food and that can include "normal" cheese or burgers or even a slice of the family roast, why don't we include say cold smoked fish or unpasturised cheese or organic dry cured meats as these are surely a better option to encourage people and help them transition themselves and maybe show their families that they are not on such a faddy or extreme diet as maybe was once thought?
and Hampshire has some really great farms in it's borders.....
with love and trying to build a bridge across the raw to cooked world....

I was in Romsey/Kimbridge/Michelmersh areas today checking out Farm shops etc for 'different' local produce for our 'produced within 100 miles' challenge theme for our Southampton Pot Luck this coming Sunday. Got a few 'surprise' items to bring along.
Decided to do a slight detour to Stockbridge to see if I could get any pears (or apples) from Leckford farm shop. Unfortunatley the farm shop is shut with a SOLD OUT sign across the entrance . Will have to wait for this years crops!

well thank you iceland.. The lack of flights and our pot luck well who would have guessed a volcano would give everyone a great opportunity to source british produce! Please feel free to include your alotment, wildfood and anyother source that you can support... And anyone stuck abroad..enjoy your extended holiday and don't worry xx

Hello Everyone
This weeks pot luck is themed "What does Britain produce?"
Just a gentle reminder to all who intend to come,
Please if possible attempt to bring something that can be linked to the theme
A dish that is large enough for 10 people to sample, so not enormous amounts!
If the weather is nice then we will gather both in the house and outside but with the doors open the house can sometimes be cool so wear a jumper, those that are regulars will know by now we have no heating.
Park in the diveway if there is room.
If you are new to raw and feel daunted as to what to bring here are some ideas;
Check out some of the following
your local farm shop
your local supermarket, they nearly all carry British produce, some even have special sections just for local stuff (Waitrose)
The Co-Op carries a larger than average proportion of British food
Allotment
Wild food
Your garden
Everything from a
seasonally inspired salad
a selection of veg just cut into finger size sticks
gourmet cake or pudding
bag of watercress from local farm
or apples to juice
even some teabags, if you found that they were from ingredients that were grown in Britain (as happened last time)
If you really still can not invent something then please pay a small donation to me after e mailing that you are not bringing food and I will do your creation for you.
(good reasons for not bringing food and these have all happened....accident, new comer, no idea what raw is, holiday return & holiday just going)
This event if the weather is bad is over subscribed so please e mail your intention to come so if we are facing a rainy indoor day then I will contact on a first come first eat basis.
There is an opportunity to purchase raw chocolates for those that want to, The pot lucks were never intended as a outlet for my creations but some people find it easier than travelling further afield, so we sell them on the Sunday.
If you are new to Raw food, this is a fantastic opportunity to meet people from all stages of raw, ask as many questions as you can, swop recipies and just in general validate that what you have chosen to do is normal.

i was very impressed today, we didn't have as many people as usual managed 14 inc kids but the food was apart from a couple of avocados and my cacao ....all british or at least could be grown here.. We had some fantastic dishes, my favorite being my mushroom pate and helens marinated dehydrated spicy veg bowl. As we had a few new people it was really great to chat out side in the sun.....mmm.....that was until i realised that the motorbike sound was getting closer and closer....and i suddenly said can anyone hear bees! My dad said and pointed 'oh,look theres one' under our tub parasol then we noticed the thousanda behind that one and all run in shutting doors and windows and gawped at the kitchen window as we watched the swarm grow, then concentrate in a funnel. Then we began venturing outside to marvel...those without allergies or phobias.... The swarm eventually settled on the tree right outside....i feel so chuffed and blessed that they have chosen our pestiside free plot to settle in xxx will keep you posted as to wether they stay...
Bees are very intelligent creatures. what a priviledge.

This weeks pot luck is themed Wild Foods
However I am fully aware that for some this may be a little daunting so I would like to offer that we also include
Fair Trade, this I hope really opens the choices up for you all
I really look forward to seeing what you all bring, I, however am juicing....don't ask how I managed to get started but I have and have been juicing for 7 days now and really feel that I should keep going until my brain stops complaining!!!!
Love to you all and look forward to seeing you Sunday xxx
Here is the recipe for the raw and wild pizza bought to this weeks pot luck. Sorry I took the ingredient card with me.
Crust:
sprouted chickpeas
sweet potato
nutritional yeast
lemon juice
pinch of pink salt
blended together until pate then shaped into large circle and dehydrated until crispy.
Cheese:
Brazil nuts
lemon juice
nutritional yeast
olive oil
pinch pink salt
blended and spread on top of crust
topping:
use any tomato topping recipe.
On top of todays pizza was just fresh tomatoes blended with (2 hour soaked) sundried tomatoes
and one tiny squeese agave as i had nothing else in the cupboard.
Top cheese with tomato mixture
Then top this with wild leaves and flowers. I used dandelion, daisies and violas from my garden.
Thanks to everyone for delicious wild food today. Also to karen for continuing to host even while she is on a juice feast. That's committment...

Yes, I'll be happy to, Jax. But I'm not actually sure how to do it on this website. Please could you let me know! Thanks!!
Ah okay, what I might do then is pinch them from FB on your behalf ;) :D
Generally though you'll need a picture hosting account with someone like Photobucket, do have anything like that?
Just wanted to say hi Jax. You missed a really lovely pot luck. Are you coming to the next one?
Hi Ruth, I was planning to come to the last one but have had massive computer issues which drove me mad for 4 days :smash::smash::smash::smash:
SO yes, am planning to come to the next :)

Whoopie all was fantastic xxxx loved all of it xxx
Next pot luck
Is a Cookie Competition
please if entering your cookie you need to put 10 (ish) cookies on a plain white plate
wrap in tin foil completely so nobody can guess what the plate or cookies look like
and on arrival place plate randomly on table
we once all plates are in will unwrap them and we will all judge by look & taste
the winner will recieve a prize
any one wanting to take part but not actually at the pot luck please deliver your wrapped plate by Saturday evening to my house, with instructions to refridgerate or dehydrate as needed to preserve your perfect cookie.
I realise this means that I will know some of the owners of the cookies but I promise this will not affect my judgement xxx
Please also remember to bring more food to actually eat
this can be what ever takes your fancy,
from salads to breads....cakes to crumbles, Inspired by the Italians or Ipswich?
Really this is a free day xxxx
Love Karen

Thanks Karen, sounds very exciting! Should we include a little tag to say what the cookies are, and their ingredients, or would our handwriting give too much away?? xx
karen @rawchocolateheaven
27-05-2010, 04:46 PM
If possible and if you want you can type the ingredients and the cookie description onto a piece of paper and tape to the plate.
Should also mention plate needs be round and normal dinner size. & plain without decoration.
Does anyone in the Hampshire area want to buy a second hand green star juicer from me? This machine is in perfect working order and makes the best quality juice. It has only ever been used as a juicer so the extra parts which come with it in order to make ice-creams, nut butters, spagetti etc have never been used. It has served us extremely well but we wish to buy a smaller juicer as we feel we don't need the whole potential of the green star, so if you are interested or would like to come and try it out do let me know. Send me a message and I'll get back to you. Thanks!

Welldone Karen Yours were just the best.
I was amazed by the diversity of cookies that were entered today
Special thankyou to
Michelle for creating in my opinion the best cookie texture
Ruth for best use of Durian LOL
Martine for best creative selection
Ani for the greatest disaster creation xx
and My husband for voting my cookies the best xxx
Of course everyone else who created such an amazing selection
Welcome to all the new faces today great to see you all xx
Next pot luck is Saturday 19th June
an evening summer party
I will post again nearer the time to remind all but a quickie for now
Everyone is :welcome: and I want to extend this to family & friends who maybe don't usually come to raw food things.
Welcoming everyone we are going to have two BBQ's running so whatever food arrives can be cooked, we aim to keep any meat on one BBQ and the veg on the other.
I appreciate that many of us have family members who would think a BBQ & party without a burger is strange...my brother for one!!!
So with this in mind we have made the decision to have the two food areas!!:rolleyes2:
A brilliant suggestion was made today that we should bring any instruments and attempt to play them.
In case that fails we will have a great CD player outside so feel free to bring your own music (I love robbie williams, plan b & Florence!!)
If you wish to comsume alcohol then you will have to bring your own as I am a teetotaller!!
love to you all xxxx

Thank you so much, Karen, and for my lovely Bio Snacky prize! I love sprouts and can’t wait to start using it! I’m glad you enjoyed my cookies – I certainly enjoyed making them! It was a lovely surprise to win, as all the cookies were delicious. Many thanks to all!xx
I’ve included my recipe below, which I adapted from one I found on Carmella’s Sunny Raw Kitchen site:
CHOCOLINA-GOJI HEARTS (makes 10-12 cookies)
Cookie Batter:
1 ¾ cups cashew flour (ground cashews)
½ cup ground oat groats
¼ cup goji flour (ground dried gojis)
¼ cup date syrup
2 tsp. almond extract
¼ cup coconut oil (room temperature)
Chocolate Chips:
½ cup coconut oil (room temperature)
½ cup cacao powder
½ cup carob powder
1 tbsp. spirulina
Method:
1. Mix Chocolate Chip ingredients by hand and put in freezer or fridge to set.
2. In a large bowl, mix Cookie Batter ingredients by hand.
3. Chop hardened chocolate chips into small chunks and fold into batter.
4. Form batter into flattened cookie rounds on a teflex sheet and refrigerate for 1-2 hours, or until slightly hard.
5. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters and keep refrigerated until ready to eat.
Enjoy!
I look forward to seeing you on all Saturday 19th for the mid-summer party!
Love from Karenxx

Please give a moments thoughts to the following and see if you would like them
on Sunday 4th July Mojo will be demonstrating the Enjo cleaning systems
with an opportunity for you to purchase
On Sunday 18th July we have been approached by the amazing Ruth Daber from " Live Blood Europe" live and dried blood microscopy with the view of her coming for a whole day on pot luck and offering
"Unlike medical testing, which deals in counting protocols, we look at the quality, shape and condition of the red blood cells. The acidic waste by-products in your blood, what you eat and drink, stress levels, exercise activity and more all directly affect the blood condition, which in turn can be a most useful indicator for health. It is possible to anticipate what causes the client to feel sick, drained or tired."
Normally this is £170 per person but Ruth will come to us if we can get 4 or more people at the amazing price of £100 per person
Maximum of 8 people given the time frame, and doing all 8 will mean some before pot luck and some after.
And
We have also been approached to host a play production (yes at our house!) it is Very raw some what explicit evocative and very good acting hits the nail on the head about alcohol.
It is performed by one man who is currently touring and could come to us.
no further details as to cost of tickets or a possible date but if you are interested then we will get him xxx

Not that I want to detract from either the Pot Luck of Mojo's demo
but I think we will have the big tv on with the tennis on....
I am in love with Nadal.:party0006:..have been for a few years now and if he beats Murray today then I will have one eye on Gods finest creation since Mr Statham xxxx:decision:
Sorry for not being more patriotic....will still have it on if it is Murray in the final
:peace:
Hope nobody minds ....although usually not many venture away from the food so this moght not be too much of a distraction

For the up and coming Pot Luck on the 18th July we have only ONE place left for the live blood analysis.
This is a great opportunity to see what your inside health is like right now.
For an amazing price of £100 payable direct to Ruth on the day, much discounted from the £160+ that she normally charges.
Just keeping you all in the loop
I have quit working at Health Etcetera, I feel passionatly about the place however I can not commit there with the commitments that I have at home, I strongly feel that parenting, pot lucks, home, family & friends are all more important.
If any of you were planning to come to the food demos at Health Etcetera I am happy to coach from home, demonstrating fantastic cakes, wraps, wild food walks for all who are interested.

Next pot luck is themed
Anything Goes
Some of you I know have asked for a pot luck on what you normally have for lunch, well now is your chance xxx
Or an opportunity to recreate a passed favorite?
I am beginning to compile themes for next years pot lucks, I was trying to find any relevant or significant dates around some of them, does anyone have any ideas?
obvious examples of this is Easter & Chocolate or hot cross buns, or Solstice and a local dish?
Does anyone want anything specific to be included, I thought about (as they were good this year) is exploring the...(like japan or the med) much more local??? places like....Yorkshire???Lancashire????yes they are famous for certain cuisine!!!! and I reckon it would be a great challenge recreating a hot pot!!! or toad in the hole!!!
get thinking and I will try and include as many ideas as possible.
& to work out dates near events just carry the every two weeks on from 2-1-11 etc
Looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday as it will be after my Abseil down Canberra towers....they have just sent me an email about a prize for the best fancy dress!!! Should I try going as a bumble bee!!!!?????
SweetSheep
27-07-2010, 03:40 PM
Good luck with your abseil, Karen! Look forward to seeing you on Sunday! xx
yes, good luck tomorrow! Please go as a bumble bee and keep the costume for Sunday! Themes for next year sound great, although we may get slightly bored of going round the entire UK. Will put thinking cap on when awake! See you soon.

WOW, what an array of great raw food dishes today! My favourite had to be the sausages, mash & gravy, closely followed by the very simple but effective grated apple, blackberry, ginger & lemon juice desert.
Thanks to all who put in a lot of effort to create some of the gourmet dishes we were able to devour. I picked up some very useful hints & ideas.

Wow It was all amazing xxx
I loved that we had 2 cheese cakes and serious gourment stuff xx
Big thank you to all of you
Different note I have contacted Ruth Daber the Live blood lady and she can come Sunday 12th September or October10th as she is away in Finland.
So all those who want a blood analysis please let me know which dates are good for you and we will try and work something out
We could also have her in December for those who want to check how their diet changes have affected them.
Please remember there is now a break in the pot lucks
The next one is August 29th
And is themed
Exploring America....I leave this entirely up to you
you can cover the well know North america and classic junk food recreated or do you know any native americian Indian dishes? Mesquite is a native american food?
Or you can delve deep into South America and explore it's rich tropical jungles and fantastic history,
Or is Mexician your thing and lets not forget Canada.
So this is a huge food area rich in diversity and cultural influences, have you always wondered about Creole or Mud pies?
Seriously this is a massive opportunity to eat!
And of course Cacao came from South America xxxxxxxx
I have checked Alderidge hill for camping on Sunday 5th September for 2 nights and they have spaces.
This campsite has no facilities, we will take our toilet tent and are happy to share.
Please confirm if you can or would like to come and I will formally book us in.
I did my Abseil on Saturday so please if you have sponsored me please find a way of getting the money to me xx
And finally we are meeting at Alderidge hill car park (bottom of hill passed camp site) 10am for a walk and wild food forage on Friday 6th August
We aim to be in Brockenhurst for 12.30 so sharing a picnic with those who are meeting us there.
Jax me & Janet are sharing a lift meeting at mine at 9.30
walk is about 6 miles, 3 into brockenhurst along the lymington river and then 3 back should take roughly 4 hours.
bring a picnic. and if wanting to gather anything a suitable bag if mushrooms a net bag or cloth bag is best (not plastic) a tub for blackberries if we find any.
Please be aware it's not like shopping in supermarkets I can not predict what if anything is available.
I would love to lead a little walk from my house so if anyone wants to come here another day and go on my local wild food walk let me know.
Right now you will go home with
Plums, blackberries, cob nuts, apples, fat hen, sloes, nettles, lime leaves, comfrey, dead nettles, haws, and random mushrooms. Found Chicken of the woods yesterday sadly it was 25ft up a tree!!!! see but not to touch!
Also the sea buckthorn berries are just devloping here and should be ripe and juicy within a fortnight. Is anybody going to join me this year in collecting them? That sea buckthorn and honey drink of last sept was amazing wasn't it?!
Thanks for all the info. I would be very interested in 12th sept for the live blood anaylis...away the following month.
Sorry we couldn't meet up today but feel it was wise to postpone it. Look forward to the next forage with better weather!

12-08-2010, 11:16 AM
Hi Everyone, been wanting to come to a pot luck with you for months now but things seem to keep popping up!
I've made a note of 29th August in my diary and I'm going to try my best to come along. Will have to start trying out some American themed stuff, yum.
Looking forward to meeting you all. Kat :)
Just so you all know, the rest of this years dates have been added to the calendar and should pop up at the bottom of the home page.........not sure why I didn't think of doing that earlier!! :confused2::confused2::rolleyes:
I thought about doing a sea buckthorn forage during the first or second week of September Sweetsheep when the berries have ripened and are pickable. I would be delighted if you could join me. We could come back to my place and make delicious juice! I have to warn you though...it is not the most easy or attractive of tasks to pick the berries and i reccommend you wear something you actaully want covered in golden goo. And maybe goggles.
