Hello again. Just to let you know I wont be able to make it to next weekend's pot luck after all, it just seems that I am destined not to come. Lot's of family people coming to stay for the weekend so can't really disappear off.

Many thanks, Jax! I’ve taken some of the photos for Facebook. My dish was called New Mexico Nachos – corn chips layered with guacamole, marinated courgette, corn, grated carrot, savoury cheese, sweet cheese and salsa. A variation of the recipe on Page 70 of “The Art of Raw Living Food” by Doreen Virtue and Jenny Ross.

Whoopie next pot luck coming up
Theme is Dehydrate everything...what happens?
An opportunity to dust of those dehydrators and get creating!
or
are you a raw foodist who believes that once food is no longer in it's natural state it looses some of its nutritional integretity and like cooking dehydrating does indeed remove the foods natural water and quoted from Tonya Zavasta once a plum is dehydrated to a prune no matter how much you add water you never have the plum back!

Where do you stand?

Do you have a favorite raw cracker you want to share or have found dehydrated in your local shop?

Or do you like those sweet dried fruits found everywhere xxx

open to debate a issue rarely talked about, an element of the raw diet that is both loved and somewhat confusing if you want to really be healthy, how much dehydrated or and lets be honest processed food is good for us?

Thank you Karen and everyone for another wonderful Pot Luck today! I’m glad you liked my pizza. Here is the recipe:

RAW-KIN LIVE PIZZA WITH CARAMELIZED ONIONS, MARINATED MUSHROOMS AND MACADAMIA PARMESAN

CRUST (can also be made into flax crackers)
2 cups golden flaxseeds, ground
1 cup water
1 large red onion, coarsely chopped
2 large yellow tomatoes
1 clove garlic
¼ bunch fresh basil
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp honey or other sweetener
½ tsp Himalayan Crystal salt
Blend all ingredients except ground flaxseeds in food processor, and then add ground flaxseeds. Spread onto dehydrator trays and dehydrate at 110 degrees for 16 hours. Flip pizza base and continue drying at 110 degrees for a further 5-7 hours.

CHEESE TOPPING

1 cup cashews
¼ cup lemon juice
1 tbsp olive oil
1-2 tbsp nutritional yeast flakes
Blend until creamy and spread onto pizza crust.

TOMATO TOPPING

½ cup sundried tomatoes, soaked in water for 10 minutes
1 large ripe tomato, chopped
¼ bunch fresh basil
½ lemon, juiced
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp honey
½ tsp Himalayan Crystal salt
Blend until creamy, and pour over cheese topping.

CARAMELIZED ONIONS

2 large onions, thinly sliced (use mandoline if you have one)
½ cup soft dates
1 1/2 tbsp tamari
1 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp water
Blend all ingredients except the onions in a high-speed blender, until smooth. In a bowl, hand-mix the date mixture with the onions until they are thoroughly covered. Dehydrate on a Paraflexx sheet at 110 degrees for 2-3 hours, so they soften and take on a cooked appearance.

MARINATED MUSHROOMS

1 cup mushrooms, sliced
Toss mushrooms in a little olive oil and tamari and let marinate for at least 1 hour. Dehydrate on a Parflexx sheet at 110 degrees for 1 hour.

Top the pizza with the caramelized onions and marinated mushrooms.

MACADAMIA PARMESAN
1 cup macadamias
1 ½ tbsp lemon juice
¼ tsp Himalayan Crystal salt
1 tbsp nutritional yeast flakes
Grind all ingredients in a food processor until you have a fluffy consistency. Sprinkle onto pizza and decorate with sprigs of parsley.

I’ve also included the recipe for the Brazil Nut Spread:

Brazil Nut Spread
2 cups Brazil Nuts
2 TBSP Miso
1 TBSP Nutritional Yeast Flakes
1/2 cup Parsley
1 TBSP fresh Thyme
2 TBSP Olive Oil
1 TBSP Tomato Concentrate (optional)
Add all to a food processor and blend. Cheese should be thick and creamy.

Sorry you couldn’t stay, Ruth. It was lovely to see you though, and thank you very much for making the yummy biscuits! They were delicious!

Look forward to seeing you all soon!

Brilliant pot luck Loved everything
Thank you Sweet Sheep for sharing your brilliant Pizza

Next pot luck is
Melons, how many are there, what can we do with them
I love melons, however there is a lot of controversy surrounding them....
Are they to be eaten on their own
or 20 minutes either side of anything else?
or not on the same day as protein!
the list of when not to eat them seems to go on & on....
So having a pot luck dedicated to one of natures finest foods removes all these problems and leaves us free to just enjoy them.

Have you tried dehydrating slices of melon and making shapes?
or melon smoothies or juices
how many are there?
can a great savory dish be made?
how neat can you make melon balls?
I don't drink but I knew someone who used to make a small hole in a water melon & over a period of weeks fill with vodka!
can another drink be done the same?

well I hope you get the idea just because it's a pot luck dedicated to one fruit doesn't mean it will be boring!

Just a quickie
There will be the normal pot luck on the Sunday 24th the is themed
ICE CREAM and is a great opportunity to pig out on the sweeter things in life xx

We are putting an additional pot luck on that has been requested on the
Sunday 31st October as a impromptu Halloween Party feel free to make orange things

maybe make masks or we could have a fire bowl and do Sweet Chestnuts (any left!!)
For those not vegan Hugh Fernly-Whitingstall has a great recipe for marsh mallows we could make (not raw I know but a fab treat)

Feel free to invite family & friends and we will have a great day no matter what the weather....remember dress warmly

p.s Please remember my little boy is totally freaked out by strange things and we would appreciate consideration extended to him, making masks then putting them on would probably be better than arriving in strange costumes.

:(
We are sad that our beautiful Fire bowl has been stolen from us...
Travellers stopped not far from us and when I was out with my little man I saw a Scrap metal van driving round...only after our Stainless Steel Fire Bowl had gone did we realise that they must have taken it .....
Probably checked out the house & saw nobody home and peeked over our back gate and thought that it looked shiney & worth something!
now it has gone and we are sad:(:(
So the up & coming Halloween party that was going to feature roasted chestnuts & homemade marshmallows now wont
We will try & look on ebay cause they did leave the not so shiney base!!!!

Yippee
Halloween was great we had pumpkin carving and Jax did a spectacular Michael Jackson Thriller carved pumpkin,
We had a great selection of foods even Jax's pumpkin pie was nice for breakfast the following day

Yes the next pot luck is this Sunday
Themed "The Humbe..Jazzing up the most basic veg"

My mum had an idea as well for a "Sunday Un Roast"
now i reckon this would tie in nicely with the theme as how boring are turnips carrots & roast potatoes or whatever has been boiled to within an inch of taste vanishing and served warm! in the old days of the Sunday roast!
There are so many possibilities for this theme it's unbelievable so here are just a couple
using carrot
carrot cake
carrot chips
carrot pizza base
carrot crisps
carrot sweets
mmm you get the idea just go for it xxx
and see you all Sunday xxxxxxxxx

HA ha thanks for the recipe for the cauliflower rice pudding...........bizarre concept that totally worked! I never thought I'd ever be happy to guzzle down a rice pudding that had cauliflower in it - Mrs Cropley from the Vicar of Dibley comes to mind!!! :Dhttp://www.rawinuk.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Morning approaches and another pot luck

Tomorrows theme is a recipe from your favorite book and if you like a review of your favorite author

I have chosen to make a dish from a photocopy of a book that was given to me by Ruth, it sums up Raw food for me,

I was going to make cookies & mylk from Julianos UnCook book as that was the first book I got on raw.
Many years ago before I even knew there was such a lifestyle as Raw! I ate a high raw diet and found the book, fell in love and began a journey into raw that continues to this day.
Then I looked through Mathew Kenneys book and Matt Amsdens Rawvolution, by far my favorite book....but the trouble was I love all the recipes, I checked out Kate Magics, Raw Magic and Ani Phyo Raw Desserts, again with the same problem and Chad Sarno Creations all the books I have led me to the same point.
I bought the books because they are my kind of food, they are all my favorites.
So the book I have a photocopy of I dont even know the name of...I just love it like all the others.

So I hope you all have a wonderful reason for choosing whatever recipe you have chosen and that we all get to eat alot of cakes......

See you all tomorrow xx

Karen, have you thought about dates for your 2011 pot lucks yet, if you are still happy to open you house to host the events? We plan to visit the area in May again as we did last year (off to the same Isle of Wight campsite again) and it would be lovely to see you again if it is possible.

SNOW GLORIOUS SNOW
Our road is quite icy, if you are coming to pot luck please let us know...

If we could have some ideas of numbers it would be great.

I appreciate many people will be waiting to see what the snow does

So please text me on my mobile if you are coming.

As the snow could get worse feel free to bring hot food, just because its a raw food group does not exclude eating hot food or comfort food this time of year.

Hope to see you all tomorrow xxxx

Karen, the pink cake looks amazing. What flavour is it?
Thanks for letting me know about the dates. We are going to be in Southampton on Sunday 29th May so now I need to count them up from the last one and see if it is on then!
Edit - just counted.
Never mind - counted it all up and it seems like 29th May won't be one.
One day I will make it to a pot luck!
Happy Christmas to you all,
Annette

Cake was my giant christmas cake that i put the recipe in Funky Raw magazine, in a nutshell its like a giant mince pie with raspberry jam sauce all over the out side!!! the light picked out a rather bright shade of pink!!! seriously there is nothing unnatural in it and it was 100% raw !!XXXX
