Just wondered if anyone had used any of the on-line companies for food intolerance testing? I've often thought I may have an intolerance to wheat but my symptoms aren't severe and I don't want to ask my GP surgery as they tend 'not to believe' in anything that might cost them money! I've seen one called testyourintolerance.com that's run by Obsidian Health. Has anyone used this or does anyone have any other recommendations?

Hi Tinkerbell, I know what you mean, it does seem like a minefield when you're looking for these and they can be very pricey too. My experience of them has been a bit mixed.

Back around '97 I had a colonoscopy and was somehow diagnosed with a wheat intolerance at the time. I was a bit naive and extremely stressed back then and I didn't get much help from the GP's :rolleyes: so blindly muddled on through life.

After a couple of years avoiding lager as that really played me up, I had a free 15min meeting with a nutritionist that suggested from my symptoms that I did have a wheat intolerance and my blood sugar levels were all over the place. Then I had the opportunity to have a Vega test (http://www.which.co.uk/advice/the-truth-about-allergy-tests/vega-testing/index.jsp) done at my Chiropractors clinic in June 2005 (I think around £30 at the time), it showed that I was mainly intolerant to;
wheat (which was my measuring stick as such)
egg
potato
soya
sugar
tomato
cows milk
kiwi
chocolate :eek:
cabbage
pineapple
MSG

And lesser degrees, but I would say played me up more when I was a meat eater; turkey, pork and lamb. So I went on to eliminate all these for 6 weeks and gradually re-introduce them 1 at a time and see which ones affected me :rolleyes: It was hard graft and completely inconvenient (especially stuck in Thruxton at lunch time and starving) but I did feel much better without all the processed foods I used to eat.

LOL and the story goes on :o Last year I still wasn't 100% happy with my health, so found a nutritionist in a mag that improved a woman's thyroid function, as I'd felt mine was not performing at all (despite 2 negative blood tests) I took myself off for an appointment.

I think Suzi used a York blood test, taken from her site:"IgG food intolerance blood test, for 59 common foods" which showed up;
cows milk
cows cheese
whole egg
rye

And weak intolerances to shellfish, cashew and ginger (can eat once every 4 days), note no intolerance to wheat! She told me that I couldn't tolerate it at that time as my body was too acidic (that's probably why it had presented itself in other tests etc). She said I should also watch the intake of the deadly nightshade family (that's not a TV prog btw) and cut out sugar............which is due to her diagnosing me with Candida. That cost around £125 with a consultation.

So how does this help you LOL.........well I can see similar foods or themes running through my Vega and blood tests, so I actually don't think I can knock the Vega testing, especially as a cheaper starting point. However, if you want to be more specific/quicker then the blood test seems to be the better option..........does that help at all?? :o

It does thanks. I looked at the York test and looked away because it's about £250 :eek: I'll have a look at the other one when I'm a bit more awake and maybe other members will have ideas they can add :)

Hiya!

I have just had a York Test done, I did it when they were on £199 offer, it's a lot of money I know. In the cost you get 2 appointments with nutritionists on the phone as well as booklets and leaflets on your intolerances. I went for this one in the end as it was the one most recommended and recorded for IBS which is what I suffer from.

I am intolerant to wheat, gluten, egg white, egg yolk, cow's milk and pineapple. I've just got my results so now am starting the minefield of finding out info, cooking and not eating things with the above in!! Scary prospect!

Hope you find out what you need to.
